Soil Zoning and Soil Sampling
Soil Variability is at the core of our Precision Farming service.
Soil type is well known to be one of the main causes of crop variation. Almost every field
has different characteristics including soil texture, soil depth, stone content, organic
matter
and much more.
When a you join IPF we take you through some important stages;
 |
Stage One: Planning
A meeting between the farmer, farm staff, agronomist and IPF specialist is
organised, brainstorming the soil & crop variation across the farm marking variation on a digital map.
|
Stage Two: GIS Soil Survey
A qualified soil scientist will take this information into the field and conduct their own
objective GIS soil survey looking at, soil type, soil texture, stone content and other relevant factors.
|
 |
Stage Three: Zone Map
The IPF Soil Scientist then draws up the IPF Zones within each field, separating the different
soil types and coding them using our unique coding system. The zones are GPS mapped.
|
Stage Four: GPS Soil Sampling
Once the IPF Zone map is completed the individual zones can be sampled for N, P, K, Mg and
pH. Our experienced soil samplers will sample each zone using GPS equipment.

With 10 IPF Soil Scientists across the UK each leaders in their field and have many years'
experience accurately mapping soil zones.
